A next generation Netherlands-India collaboration focused on innovation in One Health

The Netherlands has been successful in keeping antimicrobial resistance (AMR) stable. The number of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics is increasing globally, but in the Netherlands this number has remained stable and is lower than in many other countries. This is partly due to the country’s strict regulations and guidelines on the use of antibiotics in both the human health and veterinary sectors, but certainly also to the nationwide awareness of the issue of AMR. The country has been working to reduce the use of antibiotics in animals and has been successful in doing so.

The Netherlands has been a leader in this field and has been working with other countries to combat AMR. In 2016, the Dutch government launched a national action plan to combat AMR. This plan includes measures such as reducing the use of antibiotics in both human health and veterinary sectors, improving surveillance of antibiotic resistance, and promoting research and development of new antibiotics. The Netherlands is home to a thriving, collaborative startup ecosystem that is renowned internationally for its open culture and emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. The country has a vibrant innovation network that stimulates new ideas and encourages collaboration between public and private organizations.

The Netherlands Antibiotic Development Platform (NADP) facilitates the collaboration between public and private organizations to enhance the development of new antibiotics and alternative therapies for infectious diseases in humans and animals. AMR-Global is a Netherlands-based public-private partnership (PPP) that brings together science, business, and policy experts to develop affordable solutions to curb AMR globally.
